As leading mechanical plating specialists, we at Dynaburr offer high quality mechanical galvanizing services for various industries and applications. In the project highlighted here, we were commissioned by a customer in the utility staples industry to provide a mechanical galvanizing treatment for their diamond point staples. This part is a prime example of one better suited to mechanical galvanizing than hot dip galvanizing. Our large barrel tanks were loaded with the 1-½” x ⅜” x 0.148” sized staples, along with a mixture of zinc metal powder, water, glass impact beads, and our proprietary chemical mixture. This process upheld the ASTM B695-04 Class 50 Type 1 standard for coating with zinc. All ingredients were tumbled until the cold weld was complete, holding a minimum thickness of 0.002” and maximum thickness of 0.0035”. Finished staples exhibited a silver color.
After plating, the staples were water polished and spin dried. Thorough in-process visual testing and post production quality inspection were provided to ensure appropriate plating thickness and adhesion. 1500 industrial staples were treated and shipped to the customer after a 2 – 3 day turnaround time.
